Houston Angels
The Houston Angels were an original franchise in the WBL, playing two seasons in the league starting with the 1978-79 campaign. The Angels would win the league’s first title, becoming the first ever women’s pro basketball championship team in US history. They went 26-8 in their first season and beat the Iowa Cornets for the title in five games before a crowd of nearly 6,000. The Angels would go 19-14 in their second season, but facing financial troubles folded after being knocked out of the playoffs.
