The New Haven Skyhawks started play in the United States Basketball League (USBL) in 1985. After an 18-12 regular season, they defeated the Palm Beach Stingrays to take home the league title. Sadly after such a strong start, the USBL suspended operations for all teams until 1990. After their return in 1990, the Skyhawks would continue as the New Haven Skyhawks until 1993, when the team was renamed the Connecticut Skyhawks. The Skyhawks ended up losing to the Atlantic City Seagulls in the championship game of the 1999 season. They folded shortly after that.
