New Jersey Gems
The New Jersey Gems were one of only a few teams that made it through all of the Women’s Professional Basketball League’s (WBL) three seasons in the early 1980s. The Gems played at the Thomas Dunn Sports Center in Elizabeth and the South Mountain Arena in West Orange. The Gems weren’t particularly good on the court, going 28 wins in their first two seasons. They would find success in their third, going 23-13 and making the playoffs. The Gems would lose in the first round, and during the summer of 1981 the WBL would fold.
