Yakima Sun Kings
The Yakima Sun Kings were one of the few basketball teams to last almost two decades and won five championships during their time in the Continental Basketball Association from 1990-2008. Even with their success, the Yakima Sun Kings actually went out of business twice during their career before being revived by investors.
In 2005, the Yakama Indian Nation bought the Sun Kings and renamed them to “Yakama” instead of “Yakima” - paying tribute to the Indian Nation and its preferred spelling. After three seasons under the new ownership, the Sun Kings folded in April 2008.
